Aedifice’s Latest Care Home Project Success In Glasgow
Aedifice Partnership completed another successful care home development in April 2015.
This 70 bed care home over two storeys in Glasgow was constructed for The Sisters of Nazareth Charitable Trust. Aedifice are involved with Nazareth as their Project Manager and Cost Consultant for their new build and refurbishments of care home developments across the UK ranging in construction value from £50k to £15m.
The development of this 70 bed care home was the first of a 4 phase development on the 6 acre site, which sits a Grade II listed building, which remained in operation throughout the construction.
The £6.5m care home constructed in 60 weeks included the use of natural stone and slate roof tiles together with arched windows and doors to complement the existing listed building.
The new building provides dementia care for residents and replaces the existing care facility which has operated for over a century.
The separation of the building site with the existing operational building was key to the success of this project.
The liaison with the existing home and residents to ensure they were involved in the internal layout, selection of finishes and technology proved beneficial and the records of progress photographs were presented to the home at completion to remember the build process which the residents thoroughly enjoyed.
Also on the site is a chapel with a TV link to each bedroom enabling those residents who are unable to go to Church services to have the church services brought to their room.
The design includes large communal spaces, recessed corridor doors and coffered ceilings to give a feeling of space which is truly appreciated by residents and staff.
The cinema offers a welcome space to relax, complemented by the provision of a hair salon and therapy suite provides residents with amenities without having to leave their home.
The opening of this beautiful building was celebrated by the holding of Mass in the chapel by Archbishop Philip Tartaglia of Glasgow, who was joined by existing residents, staff, the professional team and many local residents from Glasgow.
